CEO for Ashley Horner
My name is Erin. I grew up in the Pacific North West hunting, fishing, hiking, kayaking—living an active life. My family did any activity that involved being outdoors. I come from a family who works their asses off for everything they have and where excuses are left at the door. I grew up watching my dad do everything and more than any average Joe could do. He lost his left arm as a kid and still grew up racing dirt bikes, running his own commercial fishing boat and logging company, driving big rigs, sawing down trees, flying airplanes and back country skiing. You name it, that man can do it and kick ass at it.
I moved to Alaska from Oregon in my mid-twenties to live in the “last frontier” where being outdoors was a way of life. I LOVED IT!!! I worked as a deck hand on a fishing boat, at a fishing/ hunting lodge and also any food service jobs I could get to fill my time when it wasn’t hunting or fishing season. Fast forward a few years, and I met my husband up there and fell in love. I never thought someone could get me out of Alaska, but I was not going to give him up. So I moved back down to the “lower 48,” and we have been married ever since. We have one little boy, and an Alaskan Lab named Crockett. They are my world now!
The combination of moving to a bigger city, not having a clue what I was doing as a mom and mostly being alone a lot as a military wife caused me to hit a low point in my life. Post-partum hit me hard as well (along with the 70 pounds I gained in pregnancy). Then my husband took me to Crossfit for the first time, and I suddenly found the adrenaline I once got from a hike in the mountains, an exciting hunting trip, or catching a monster king salmon. Due to the fact that my little one is too busy-minded, I couldn’t stay in the Crossfit gym. So I took my new love for fitness outdoors! Sand hills, packing the weights to the park, or the beach. I love it! And being able to pack my kid along and be an example for him as well makes it even better.
Being a part of Team Horner is a dream come true. I am inspired by Ashley daily; she shows you that when the going gets tough, then you just GET TOUGHER! She is a serious bad ass and is forging a new path in the industry that I am excited to be a part of. I love being able to share my passion for fitness and being role model for our future youth.
Stacey Donald has discovered a great love of fitness only in the last four years. She has spent most of her adult life as a sedentary college student while earning her bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees in literature.
Three years before completing her PhD, Stacey discovered the world of roller derby and the power of a physically active, largely female community. A popular slogan in the derby world is “Roller derby saved my soul,” and for Stacey, this was true. She had to take time off from skating to complete her PhD, and when that degree was finished, it was time to reevaluate her life. While working a full-time job as an English professor, raising a fantastic daughter, and completing her last degree, Stacey had let her physical fitness drop pretty low on the priority list in spite of her love affair with a very physical sport, and the results were unwanted weight, high blood pressure, and anxiety.
It was at this point that Stacey’s best friend, a fellow skater, decided enough was enough and dragged her to the gym, refusing to let her hide out on the cardio side. Six months later, to her great astonishment, Stacey realized that she loved the weights, loved working out with her friends, and was well on her way to becoming a gym rat. She started following Ashley and eventually contacted Team Horner about doing editorial work on the website.
Now Stacey oversees the Liberal Arts department at her university, is out on her own with her twelve-year-old daughter, Lillian, and is working as Team Horner’s editor. While her mind has always been strong, Stacey is working every day to balance that mental strength with physical power, to foster a love of fitness in her daughter, and is looking forward to starting a certification program in personal training and nutrition while continuing to help her college students learn to love writing.
Derby did save my soul. Now, getting fit and growing my community of strong women is maintaining that salvation. Winding up as a part of Team Horner has only further enriched my life and given me more opportunities to be the best woman I can be—extraordinary! I am so grateful that my two great passions, writing and lifting, have intersected in such a wonderful way!
Online/Digital Design & Development
We are Cathi and Ryan Murray, a married team of hybrid computer artists & programmers. Our company is 3200 Creative and we've been running it side-by-side since 2005.
When we aren't on the computers we stay creative. Ryan spends most of his spare time producing music, working on some type of graffiti-style art, or educating. Cathi is always working on handmade projects or maintaining her gardens.
Our computer-based jobs requires plenty of time carved-out for exercise. We have a stand-up office and an elliptical modified to hold a computer. Ryan often keeps the office going while running a 3-5k. Cathi starts out her days with Pilates, strength-training, or a cardio routine. She keeps us healthy by serving-up good eats. When we get out you can find us burning calories dancing at a dubstep/house-music event in Minneapolis or attending a multi-day EDM festival somewhere in the US.
As a part of the Ashley Horner team, we are the digital muscle!!! We work with the team daily improving the website, app, contests, eBooks, and products. The most inspiring thing about being on the team is seeing the amount of dedication and motivation each member has.
